Queen Poppy - a Beauty

Standing Alone on a City Street

                                                          by Janie McRae

At the end of the day, I was tired and alone,
As I crossed the street for home.
Dashing through crushing and rushing traffic,
I crossed the street alone.

Where I landed - and where I glanced,
I saw poppies near my feet -
Scattered Poppies in pinks and purples
In a city garden near a city street.

A Queen lay lightly in the purple passion.
The Queen lay slightly in silent repose.
Her Regal beauty within my reach,
She sprawled slightly in sublime repose.

In the melody of the pink and purple,
Near darting cars on a busy street,
A Queen lay resting near my feet,
Sprawling within my camera’s reach.

She resides above - for all to see,
- The Queen of Purple Poppies -
She who lay so near my feet.

I love photographing the luxurious poppy. I am eager for these golden months in the Pacific Northwest: May through October - a time when flowers will bring their color and beauty to Washington state.

As I worked with the poppy image above, I vividly recalled the details of the shoot - and the special beauty of the day! The photograph inspired me to write a poem about a beautiful poppy.

Always, my friends, thank you for taking the time to visit and view the pics!

Please leave a comment - share your thoughts and views on photography and/or life in general!  Thanks! Janie

Beautiful photo and beautiful poem! You always have had a way with words. You are blessed with
your photography and your writing talent.
Your niece inherited that from you and I am so thankful for that. She uses that talent daily
In her job, her blog, and her freelance.😘
