100 Year Tugboat Sandman Waves from a Banner in Olympia

Thanks to the Olympia Downtown Association, Olympia is flying high with colorful banners from its summer contest (2010); The requirement: photograph downtown Olympia. It was a lot of fun to walk the downtown area while searching for just the right scene. And what could be a more iconic and familar scene in Pugit Sound than the 100 year old vessel Tugboat Sand Man?

There has been a tremendous amount of pride and passion and countless hours of work involved in the restoration of Tugboat Sand Man.  But the efforts of these dedicated volunteers from the Sand Man Foundation have preserved an important part of Olympia's history. So, thank you very much, Sand Man Foundation volunteers. (Sand Man Foundation is a nonprofit organization that has owned the boat since 1997).

And thank you Oly's Downtown Association for installing the colorful and beautiful  banners in downtown Olympia. You just made Olympia a brighter and more cheerful place to live and visit. If you would like to view the complete history of pre-restoration and restoration, visit Tugboat Sandman's website.
